After our radio talk Deb shared answers to more questions. Enjoy!
Question 1:
Ping, a pixie faery raised in a dwarf colony, believes she doesn’t have magic in the first book, Frigg’s Journey to Anasgar.
In the second book, Ping’s Mystery in Pixiandria, she embarks on an adventure to uncover the secrets to her powers and locate the mother she has never known. Pixiandria is an enchanted realm and her magic blossoms there. It was only natural that amazing magical things would happen to her, and we would find out about them at the same time that she did.
Imagining those magical creations is one of the joys of writing fantasy stories, and I hope readers find delight in them as well.
Question 2:
Ping’s Mystery in Pixiandria will be released on Tuesday, October 29th!
Question 3:
One of the most delightful parts of being a published author is hearing from readers I’ve never met. While it’s wonderful to hear that my friends enjoyed my book, there’s something truly special about a stranger taking the time to share their favorite part or character with me. It means the world to know they aren’t just being kind.
Recently, I received heartwarming feedback from a woman who read my book to her daughter over several evenings as their family bedtime story. She said her daughter still talks constantly about Cricall, an energetic unicorn and one of the four main characters. They are eagerly awaiting the second book.
Hearing how much they enjoyed my story thrilled me, and I hope they find the second book just as enchanting.
Question 4:
As an avid reader of middle grade stories, I’ve found amazing satisfaction in their pages.
But I was surprised to discover how many adults enjoy them too! Children’s books have a special way of offering encouragement to readers. Even when they touch on sadness, the characters often find hope by the end.
Adult books can sometimes be quite heavy, so it’s no wonder that many grown-ups turn to middle grade books for an uplifting read. These stories renew our spirits and remind us of the positive possibilities in the world.
Question 5:
When writing a book, the focus is on the ideal reader. Who will enjoy your story? You work to include elements that captivate and engage them. But when it comes to marketing, the focus shifts to the adults in your reader’s life. What do they need to know about your story to see its benefits for their child and decide to purchase it? Reaching the market audience for middle grade books can be quite challenging.
To address these unique promotional needs, we started a local marketing group for children’s book authors. Sharing marketing information and supporting each other has been incredibly helpful. For example, we collaborated on a book promotion extravaganza last spring, showcasing the other authors on our social media sites and offering special giveaways. Members of the group often team up to share tables at book fairs and bazaars. Sharing what worked and didn’t work in our promotional efforts is helpful to our future endeavors.
I strongly encourage other authors to find or create their own networks in their local areas. The collaboration and support can make a world of difference!
Question 6:
I have two platforms that I find entertaining: Facebook and Instagram.
My Facebook page is a lively space where I engage with readers, sharing information about upcoming events and promotions. I also sprinkle in some fantasy fun. It’s a good way to build a community and keep everyone updated on the latest news.
My Instagram page is a fun place to share graphics about writing and reading. It’s visual fun that allows me to creatively showcase my work and connect with fellow book lovers.
Both of them provide a creative outlet for my work. And lets face it, I’m a little addicted to the “likes” to see which posts get the most interaction!
