After our radio talk Shawna shared answers to some questions I asked. I think you will enjoy them.
Question 1:
Meeting and talking to people who have read and loved my books. I had one person ask for the release date so she could put it on her calendar. The best is when someone says they stayed up all night or procrastinated on a work project because they couldn’t put the book down. That tells me that my books are hitting the way my favorite books as a reader have affected me, Nothing beats that feeling.
Question 2:
It’s been my goal most of my life. I’ve been publishing novels since May, 2013, but I got yeeted off the cliff and into full-time writing when my day job eliminated my entire department. Since I worked there so long, I had a full year’s severance to figure out how to make a living.
Question 3:
Seamus (pronounced SHAY-mus) was just the sweetest thing. He was always up for pets and snuggles from strangers along our walks. He was also very handsome, and when people on the streets complimented him, he would prance with pride. But if someone didn’t say something about how pretty he was, he would sulk and give them the side-eye.
He was, however, a strong judge of character. One time when I was stopped at an ATM, after many friendly encounters on my walk, I put Seamus into the sit-stay command and looped the leash over my wrist. I proceeded to go about my business, when suddenly I heard a low growl. I turned to see a sketchy-looking man backing away with his hands up. Seamus hadn’t broken from the sit-stay, but he made it very clear that he was not letting that man anywhere near his mommy.
Question 4:
Oh, man. So very many, Charles de Lint has been one of my favorite authors for over three decades. (Wow, that makes me sound old) Ben Aaronovitch, for sure. Laurie R. King is a straight-up mystery writer, but she and I share a love of Sherlock Holmes and beautiful prose, and her deft plotting and attention to character is beyond compare. From among the up-and- comers, I love R.L King’s Alastair Stone Chronicles. She and I have been online friends for nearly a decade and have shared much of the journey together. I’ve just started reading David R Slayton’s Adam Binder series (finished Trailer Park Trickster and am looking forward to the next book.) I suspect Slayton may find his way onto my list of favorites.
Question 5:
I try to be available on all major social platforms—I just added TikTok.
I am pretty easy to find just by searching my full name. I’m on Facebook frankly more than I should be. You can follow me at my Amazon Author page.
I also have a reader group, A Conspiracy of Ravens, where readers can ask questions, discuss the books among themselves, or post memes with ravens, wolves, teapots, etc. I drop into the group frequently and will happily answer any questions. Readers can join at Facebook.
Readers can also keep updated by signing up for my newsletter at my website and they will receive a free eBook novella from the Ravensblood series for signing up.
And, of course, they can follow me on Amazon to be notified when new books are released.
